Symptoms

When the problem starts in infancy, the rash tends to be localized on the face and scalp. In older children, the skin lesions usually occur on the chest, large folds of the extremities, the elbow creases and behind the knees. Even though these are the most common sites, other areas can also be affected. In the early stages of skin problem, the skin will appear red and blotchy all over. In the later stages it would appear in a rash that affects the inner part of the arms and legs. Itching is usually the most aggravating of all skin problem symptoms. If not scratched, the skin would probably show little or no changes. The itching is most severe at night and the skin becomes raw and may begin to ooze.

The most common foods accused of triggering a bout of skin problem are cow's milk, wheat, citrus, egg white, peanuts and fish. In infants, the introduction of solid foods in the early stage of life can increase the child’s risk of developing skin problem. Hand skin problem may be caused by irritation from too much exposure to wet work, detergents, oils and greases, solvents etc at home or in the workplace; and/or contact Exaggerated response of defense mechanism to a specific substance e.g. cement, nickel, lanolin etc. or a combination of the above factors.
