| Description
of Acetyl-L-Carnitine |
 |
Acetyl-L-Carnitine is the ester form of L-Carnitine; a naturally occurring amino acid metabolized from Lysine and Methionine and used extensively by the brain and nervous system. There is a significant amount of research on L-Carnitine’s role in cardiac and skeletal muscle function and in its role in fat metabolism/loss. N-Acetyl- L-Carnitine’s research has focused mainly on its role in brain and nervous system function with regard to the aging process. The older we get, the more likely we are to suffer from cognitive/memory loss. Many nutrients have been studied for their potential in promoting brain health in older adults. N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine is one of those nutrients. N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine is involved in Beneficial Effectsing age-related effects on the brain by protecting neurons from oxidative damage. Research suggests that N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine may have the ability to slow down and, perhaps, reverse many of the signs of brain aging. N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine benefits mitochondrial efficiency and functions as an antioxidant within the mitochondria, Enhanceing neurons maintain optimal energy levels. N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine increases acetylcholine levels in the brain. Acetylcholine is one of the main neurotransmitters needed for memory. Unfortunately, it is the main neurotransmitter deficiency that occurs with age and this is suggestive of one of the reasons for loss of cognitive abilities, as we get older. N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine appears to be absorbed intact and is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier. Because of the neuro-protective properties that N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine has demonstrated, studies suggest and researchers are theorizing that neuro-degenerative Malfunction of mind or bodys such as dementia and Alzheimer’s may be Enhanceed by supplementation with N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine to assist in slowing down the progression of these conditions. AIDS patients have also gained relief from Discomfort associated with damage to their neurons due to this virus.

Information for Acetyl-L-Carnitine |
 |
Carnitine helps the body in converting fatty acids into energy by transporting long chain fatty acids into the mitochondria which are the energy producing centers of the body cells. This energy is used for different muscular activities taking place throughout the body. Carnitine is produced by the body in the liver and the kidneys and is then stored in the skeletal muscles, heart, brain and sperm.
Some individuals have dietary deficiencies may also be a result of genetic disorders, kidney or liver problem, diets containing high levels of fat, certain medications and low intake levels of the amino acids lysine and methionine which are substances needed to make carnitine.
Low or deficient levels of Carnitine may result in problems like
1) Tiredness or fatigue
2) Muscular pains
3) Chest pain
4) Weakness
5) Low blood pressure
6) Others
A health care professional may recommend the use of nutritional supplement L-Carnitine for persons who have a suspected or confirmed deficiency of this nutrient.
