How Does It Work?:
The adrenal glands are two small endocrine glands that sit on top of the kidneys. The adrenals consist of two components, the central medulla surrounded by the outer cortex. The adrenal medulla secretes the hormones, epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine.1 The adrenal cortex secretes over 30 hormones, such as aldosterone, cortisol, and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), used to regulate functions in the body, including energy production, immunity, allergic reactions, and the stress response.
Stress is derived from the body's need to protect itself—the fight or flight response.
