Copper is a mineral found in all tissues in the body. Body required small amount of copper but it plays a key role in the body. It produces hemoglobin which is the main component of Red blood cells. Copper assist Vitamin C to make elastin (a component of connective tissue).
Copper can work as an antioxidant as well as pre-oxidant. When copper acts as an antioxidant, It works by attacking free radicals that occur in the body naturally and can be harmful for various health conditions. They can damage cell walls also. Copper works as an antioxidant by neutralizing these radicals. It also prevent some damage they cause as pro-oxidant copper promote the damage of free radicals. It can contribute some diseases also. It is necessary to maintain the proper dietary balance of copper (could be with other minerals like Zinc and Manganese). It should be done under the guidance of a doctor or dietitian.
