Description of Hoodia Gordonii
|
 |
Hoodia Gordonii has been used for generations by South African tribesmen to stave off hunger and thirst during long hunting expeditions. Hoodia is difficult to grow and requires just the right amount of water, sunlight and temperature. It takes five years for Hoodia to grow to full maturity.
South African scientists have been testing Hoodia since 1996 when they discovered the plant (Hoodia Gordonii) contained a previously unknown molecule that replicates the effect glucose has on nerve cells in the brain fooling the body into thinking it is full, even when it is not. Hoodia’s appetite suppressing molecule is said to be almost 10,000 times stronger than glucose. A U.S. pharmaceutical company spent over 400 million dollars researching this molecule.
To test the Hoodia, morbidly obese people from Leicester, England, were kept in a place as close to prison as it gets. All the volunteers could do was read papers and watch television and eat. Half the group was given Hoodia Gordonii and half was given a placebo. At the end of 15 days, the group on Hoodia had reduced their food intake by 1000 calories a day. Given the average daily diet is around 2200 calories, this was a remarkable success! Another clinical study performed in 18 overweight but healthy males provided statistical evidence that the Hoodia Gordonii extract reduced the average daily calorie intake and reduced body-fat over the 2 week clinical trial period.

| I have been using Hoodia off and on for the last 3 months. This brand is one of the 3 brands I've tried, and it was the most consistent and effective. It even got me through a visit to my parents' house, where I normally overeat--I ate even less than normal when I had the power of Hoodia behind me! I take 2 first thing when I wake up, then have some juice dilluted with water. Throughout the day I can do well drinking the watered down juice between meals, then very light meals when it's time. When I remember to take it, I notice that if I am a little hungry, it is at a time when I would normally be starving. If I am very busy at work and cannot take a meal break for a long time, rather than being nauseous and faint and having a headache (my usual hypoglycemic symptoms), I am just aware of a faint hunger, and an idea that I should eat soon. It makes my hectic schedule a lot more comfortable to deal with, AND my weight loss goals a lot more attainable. So far I've lost about 5 lbs with Hoodia. Unfortunately, but for obvious reasons, all my bad old eating patterns and excessive appetite and cravings come right back when I'm not taking this supplement. | |
