Our bodies use enzymes to break down fats into their simplest components so that they can be absorbed. These enzymes are called lipases and they work in the intestinal tract. When lipases are inhibited, the body does not absorb fats as efficiently and much of the fats are eliminated in the stool. As the undigested fat passes through your body, you may notice loose or oily stool or possible diarrhea. To reduce this potential condition, it is recommended that you limit the amount of fat in the diet to 30%.
